Willowpelt lay on the Skyrock. He fell into a deep sleep.
Willowpelt padded through the silvery StarClan forest. He was soon greeted by starry cats of all the Clans. Hello, Willowpelt. They whispered, flicking their tails around him and guiding him to a shimmery version of the Highledge. He sat at the top at their bidding, and they came to give him Nine Lives.
First up was his father, Gorgetail.
"Hello, son. I'm very proud of you." he said, and touched his nose to Willowpelt's head. "I give you the gift of love, so you may care for your Clan as a mother cares for her kits." A burning sensation ran through Willowpelt, feeling as if he would tear apart Twolegplace to defend his Clan.
Next, was his sister Birdheart, who died from greencough trying to cure her sick Clanmates from it.
She nudged his shoulder, and mewed, "I give you the gift of hope, so you may never give up." Willowpelt saw a bright light and knew that was hope. He nodded, and Birdheart padded away.
Then it was Fernstar, who had been the leader only briefly.
"I'm so sorry, Willowpelt. I didn't want to leave you this soon. I give you the gift of wisdom, so you may live long to keep your Clan safe for seasons to come." at this, she stepped back into the crowd.
Then was Nightwing, his mentor. He had been killed by a Twoleg dog.
"Willowpelt. I give you the gift of courage, to defend your Clan against any enemy, no matter how big or strong."
Leaping down from the ledge, he left Willowpelt strong and brave from the gift.
After that was the previous deputy, Eaglepelt.
"Willowpelt, I feel you can lead the Clan well. StarClan will be advising you. And I give you the gift of tireless energy, to serve your Clan till the end of your days. Remember we are here for you."
Then was Kitepaw, who had been Eaglepelt's only son.
"I give you the gift of mentoring," he squeaked,"so that you may have strong warriors for SkyClan." He tumbled back into the throng of cats.
The next gift was from Larchkit, the blind kitten who had fallen prey to a rabid rat.
"I give you the gift of justice, to judge your Clanmates fairly. Good luck, Willowpelt."
Then was Yellowclaw, who had murdered a loner to protect Willowpelt as a 'paw.
"I give you the gift of loyalty," she rasped, "to know what is right even if it's against the warrior code."
Last of all was Rainfoot, who had been the best hunter until he was driven away by a badger. He had helped Willowpelt fight a rouge patrol off and had been killed in the process. "I give you the gift of pride, to never think badly of yourself or your Clan."
With this, Willowpelt leapt off the shining Highledge into the crowd of cats. They were all meowing his new name, "Willowstar! Willowstar!"
With that, Willowstar woke.
